Partition Magic 8.01, Error #983 Too Many Errors

3'rd time I'm loading the OS after 2 system crashes on new MB / CPU combo, re: finding the limits on the new rig.

Had Partition Magic 8.01 work great the first 2 times to resize the clusters (from 4K to 16K). Since this 3'rd time I've loaded from scratch, when I try to resize the clusters I get Error Code #983 Too Many Errors. I ran Chkdsk /f a couple of times already but still get the error. Also tried Chkdsk /r, Disk Deframenter (Executive Software 6.0), and ran the disk utilities via the GUI. PowerQuest support mentioned that there is nothing else to try other than keep running Chkdsk /f. They said that they had heard one one person having to run Chkdsk /f seven times before the error cleared.

Are you wanting to start out clean, fresh install? Try to delete the stripe and build a new one. Try the partition program. If still nothing the Sata controller may have a program that will wipe the drive clean.

I have just reloaded from scratch (including the entire drive(s) reformatting). But, perhaps if I rebuild my stripe first. I'll try tonight. I don't believe that rebuilding the stripe requires me to restart from the beginning.

Deleting the stripe will mean you will have to format everything all over.

I vaguely recall a similar error in either PM or DI when working with RAID, and I think it may be related to the section of the disc that the RAID controller reserves for the array information. Deleting and re-creating the array might do it. I also seem to recall ignoring such an error and having no problems, but that was with only a few errors. Your crashes probably hosed the partition tables.

Ran Ckdsk /f several times & cleared the error, then got PM Error #1681. Went to the web-site and issued the command listed. Was finally able to change cluster size only to find that on Win2K, Diskeeper can't defrag clusters > 4K (see other thread).
