How much weight can AS Adhesive hold?

Hi, i was wondering... how much weight can Arctic Silver Adhesive hold? I have an old AMD K6-2 Heatsink.. kind of tall.. that i would like to use on my GeForce 3 TI200 card.. but i dont want the heatsink to like fall off or something from the weight, and hanging upside down on the vid card.... thanks!

you standard cheap hardware store epoxy will hold upwards of 2000lbs.

i made my own artic epoxy as3+epoxy for my NB waterblock

i could not twist it off until i sat in the deepfreeze for an hour.

i dont think you have anything to worry about

The key is to make sure that the epoxy is subject to tensile forces, such as the heatsink being oriented horizontally and gravity pulling it down.

It won't do to well with shear strength, such as gravity pulling the sink along the plane parallel to the graphics card. For example, if you have a desk case with the card oriented up/down, gravity will pull the sink parallel to the card. In this case, the force isn't much, so the epoxy will likely hold.

I used AS Epoxy on some RAMSINKS on an older video card I had that died. I was trying to remove the RAMsinks to use on another board. I successfully pulled 3 of them off....all 3 with the chip still attached to the ramsinks! I doubt you will have an issue at all...

Peace...

frizzle if you want to save those ramsinks... get a can of compressed air and wrench. shoot the air onto the chip until it freezes and they will pop right off

Now I don't believe that core just fell apart like that just from the weight of the HSF....it would require MUCH more pressure than that to do that.
