Poll: Do all Overclockers know and tweak mem timings or not?

While reading the worst DFI NF3 review Ive seen, I decided to email the guy and let him know what I felt about his review. Basically his point of view is the MOST overclockers dont even know what mem timings are or do so they dont mess with it. I told him that if you call your self and OCer and dont even know what timings are then you are not one. He doesnt recommend the NF3 because onyl hardcore OCers will be able to make it perform better than other boards because its much slower than others when stock. I dont agree with him at all but would like to do a poll and see if he is right or not. Are most OCers aware and use mem timings to get the most from their rigs or not?

Man..wtf? You need some pssy bro. I think I do too I've been posting here too much lately. Blame the god damn piece of crap MSI board for that. I had 900 posts in 3 yrs. due to all the upgrading I've done and the last 2 months I've gone over 1000 posts. It's a sad day indeed. I never thought I'd go over 1000. I'm a damn loser! I better be or else that'd make me a hypocrite since I used to see all the people with over 1000 posts and think, "wtf, man do these people have a life? what do they do screw the mobo socket holes or what? pathetic". I think I have a good excuse though..MSI.

I should just shut the f up and get out of here.

Well the DFI is slower at stock than other boards - but that is because it is setup loose to allow higher HTT from scratch.

Where could I learn about timings, and also about how voltage plays into it...im so nervous about playing around with timings because its so easy to corrupt windows (or so ive been told).

Just use A64 tweaker if you are using the a64 of course, and chances of curroption are minimized unless you like to boot and shutdown at untested speeds.

Re: Poll: Do all Overclockers know and tweak mem timings or not?

I'd like to call myself a hardcore overclocker and know what most of the memory settings are. If someone took my brain outta my head and had a look at what I know about them they'd see I know it all, but I forget stuff easy so it's in there somewhere.

Re: Poll: Do all Overclockers know and tweak mem timings or not?

i think we are stuck in the mindset of how timings were really important on the bartons.

its not so much with the a64s. although we still want 250fsb 2-2-2. and will pay big money for it!

Re: Poll: Do all Overclockers know and tweak mem timings or not?

tyrant I totally disagree. I think people have been telling that A64 doesnt care about timing line without any evidence. I have seen evidence that proves otherwise. Ive seen an A64 running slower than mine and with less memory bandwidth but better timings and it beat my Render Test score. I had a 50MHZ and 30FSB advantage but at 2.5-3-3-6. Timings are important at least for benchers..
