Idiots from Creative support!

ME:
Detailed Problem Description:
Hi
I have problem with connecting audio cable of my "Icy box IB-605" front panel to get its Audio-out jack working. I just don't know which cable should be connected where.
Name of audio part of cables on front panel are:

GND
LINE L
LINE R
EAR L
EAR R
MIC-VCC
MIC-IN

Creative support
Dear Ivan

Thank you for contacting Creative Labs Support.

Please provide me with the model number allocated on the top right hand corner of the card with CTxxxx or SBxxxx number. I also need the serial number which can be found on the sticker and the ink stamp which is printed on the back of the card
What kind of outputs does the icy box possess? kindly confirm. Also, what do you wish to achieve by connecting these 2 together?
------------------------------------------------------------------
ME
model number is: CT4830
serial: T4830940923725
As I know, it belonged to Dell's configuration (I've bought it form some fellow)
Icy Box IB-605 possess 2 USB jacks, 1 firewire jack and 1 combined jack for "audio out" and "microphone in". I whish to know, how can I plug in that combined audio out/mic-in jack into the sound card to get those jacks on front panel working
That combined jack is combined of separate pins, and looks like this one here:
http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/4...inaudio1rb.jpg

diference is that my has this kind of jacks:
GND
LINE L
LINE R
EAR L
EAR R
MIC-VCC
MIC-IN

As you can see, my jacks have "LINE L & R" and not 2x "EAR L & R".
Also, all of my pins are separate (there isn't "EAR R" pin's cable comming out of first "EAR R" which comes put of main cables.

For any detailed question just ask because I really need front's panel audio.

Thanks in advance!

Creative support
Dear Ivan,

Thank you for reaching us at Creative Email Technical Support; we
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

With regards to the issue you are having, I understand that you wish to connect the front inputs of the Icy box IB-605 to the soundcard.

We can tell you that our outputs are standard, but we do not recommend doing this. It could void your soundcard's warranty if done incorrectly.
If you decide to proceed, be aware that you are doing so at your own
risk. You can get more information from the case manufacturer on this
matter.

Do reply back to us if you have any enquires. Thanks.
------------------------------------------------------------------
ME
Thanks for fast reply, but you havent answered the main question: WHERE
on sound card should I connect those pins from audio cable? In Aux-in? In
CD-Audi? In that long pin line that looks like IDE jack? This answer can
only be answered by you, not by case/front panel manufactorer!

So, I want to get front audio jack working in way that if I plug
headphones into front panels audio out, that audio out on sound card (rear audio
out) becomes mute (so I don't get sound both from speakers and headphones)
So, where on soundcard should I connect front panel's "audio out" pins?
Picture would be apriciated!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Creative support
Dear Ivan

We are not allowed to tell you what pins connect to what on the
soundcard, this is an integral part of the soundcard design and as such
not available to the public.

I am sorry that we canont help you with your query.

Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this
email.

Best Regards
-----------------------------------------------

I just can't bolive this fellow! He just doesn't want to tell me where I should connect those deamn pins to get front panels audio out woking...

Re: Idiots from Creative support!

I may have missed it, but which Creative soundcard do you have? If your looking for the Pin-out for the X-fi or Audigy 2, it has already been posted in another thread :

The headphone and line in will not work though as the pins are all digital; the drive bay has its own DACs and ADCs. The game port is deleted, but the pins below have MIDI signals.

Re: Idiots from Creative support!

yea, that information is technically not supposed to be public, and creative isn't going to disclose it as a matter of policy. believe it or not, their european support site had the pinouts, but they no longer do.

from my understanding, the 40 pins on the card's edge DO NOT contain any analog audio signals whatsoever.

to use attach it as an input, use either the CD audio or AUX for analog and the CD DIGITAL pins for a digital input. Again, the pins for the AUD EXT header do not contain any analog signals you can use. The drive bay module is not just a set of inputs and outputs; it is a self contained card within itself with DACs, ADCs, and even an headphone amp.

it is SB Live! value, but I doubt that it has diferent placement of those pins on end of card
and thanks for link on pin scheme, but I allready have it, and posted it here:
http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=405963

but the problem is that i don't know how to connect front panel's pins into that scheme - this is my first time i have to "think" what to plug into what (before, I just had to plugin specific cable into specific jack)

steven975, I think you are wrong because tehnician said:
"We can tell you that our outputs are standard, but we do not recommend doing this. It could void your soundcard's warranty if done incorrectly.
If you decide to proceed, be aware that you are doing so at your own risk"

he didn't tell "it cant be done, that pins aren't for that"...

Re: Idiots from Creative support!

they are standard in that they are standard SPDIF (a digital connection) which is of no use to you as you are trying to do analog connections. the pins are not analog.

note that the pinout I gave is for the audigy2/x-fi. The Live and audigy pinouts are different.

see my response to your other thread. Since you have the Live Value you will be able to connect your MIC and your Line IN. You should be able to figure out the right pinouts in a few minutes by experimenting. BTW, the top panel 4-pin headers have the L and R on the outer pins and the GND on the inner pins. You only need to connect your one GND pin. You will use the GND pin for both the MIC and the Line IN.

but I need output of sound, not input... and I dont really need microphone...

heres the latest relpy from Creative:

ME:
Oh, c mon! You are joking, right? Please, PLEASE tell me into what on SB Live! should I connect those pins from Audio out to get it working! I just want my front panel's audio out working! It is not illegal! I've bought that card, it is mine, i can do anything with it and plun anything into it. your responsibility, as support of my product, is to enshure that I dont plug in something wrong! Please, just picture me what to plug in like this:
PINS
Live! IB-605
P1 - GND
P3 - LINE R
P5 - LINE L
P6 - EAR R
and so on...
Please help me!
-------------------------------------------------------

CREATIVE SUPPORT:
You do own the card, however, you bought it secondhand which means we
have no responsiblity to provide you with support whatsoever.

below is a quote from the warranty statement of the card.

1. The limited warranty extends only to the original end-user purchaser
and holder of this warranty (?You? or ?Your?) and is not transferable or
assignable to any subsequent purchaser.

2. You must provide proof of purchase of the Product by a dated itemized
receipt to be eligible for this limited warranty.

3. The limited warranty is ONLY applicable in the country or territory
where the product was purchased from an authorized Creative retailer and
excludes any product that has not been purchased as new or is obtained
as a result of the purchase of a non-Creative product.

Furthermore attempting to connect 3rd party products are not recommended
by Creative, and as such we are not responsibel for helping you do this.

I am sorry that you cannot make your front panel work, but in all
honesty, if it is that important buy a card where the front panel is a
part of, like the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or X-Fi Platinum or X-Fi
Fatality.
---------------------------------------------

ME:
Ok, I'm begging you now: PLEASE help me! All I want is to have front audio out. So I have some 3rd party front panel with universal cables, so what? I dont have money for better....
So, please help me! Just tell me (from personal trash mail if you like, no obligations) which cable should be connected where on SB Live! to get audio out working. PLEASE!!!!!

Thumbs down Re: Idiots from Creative support!

And this is another example why, no matter how good their future products are, why I will never, ever buy a Crapative Labs product.

but why doesn't this Crappy Labs tehnician just say so? He would get rid of me for shure with that answer... I think it is possible, but they don't want us to know how, because people would understand that their ultra mega ninja original CL front pannels are just overpriced pice of plastic...

Re: Idiots from Creative support!

I think I'm wanting to do the same thing as the orginal poster here - I just got an X-Fi Music and I'd like to connect the front pannel headphone/mic jacks to the card. From what I understand from this post and reading elsewhere, this isn't possible and if I want front pannel headphone/mic connection for a gaming headset, I need to purchase an X-Fi that comes with the drive bay thingy?

I'd like to find out ASAP - I've got a free bay and I got the X-Fi from Circuit City and I have 29 days left to return it.

Is the drive bay thingy available by itself anyplace? I don't know what to call it to Google for it and can't find it. If I could buy it alone, that may wind up being cheaper as CC had the X-Fi Music for $89 after the rebates...

Thanks!

Re: Idiots from Creative support!

Found another online coupon for the X-Fi Music from Circuit City making it $129-$15 (coupon)-$40 in rebates. For $75, I'm keeping the cheap X-Fi!

Solved my problem with this:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

Plugging the gaming headset into the back of the X-Fi - AND plugging in my good speakers on the other side of this adapter. I have a cheaper adapter right now that does the same thing but gets in the way of using the Mic jack on the X-Fi but it sounds just fine.

Music sounds great through my speakers and BF2 sounds awesome on the headphones with the 3d sound stuff and ultra quality sound. Speakers got an easy volume/mute control so I mute when using headset for BF2 - problem solved!
