Found a couple of other threads out there with the same problem:

This one seems more informative:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=21862&st=0
A couple of different problems, but included is the one you mention, USB devices not recognized unless USB 2.0 is turned off in bios. Nobody has any workarounds. One person reports that Asus tech support said that they cannot work on a pre-release or pirate copy of Vista, and that there is nothing they can do until the general release, at which time they will write and post drivers on the download site. Hmm...
Also, the problems in this thread seem related to having more than 2 GB or RAM. How much are you using, you need to have specs listed when posting.

ASUS replied, that we have to wait for the official VISTA release date, cause they cant test our issue on illegal copy... Sounds strange, considering that Nvidia have already released beta-drivers for it's chipset.

I spoke to Asus yesterday they said they are working on the issue and will post the drivers when done on their site.

Just an FYI, I bugged this issue in the Vista beta several times with my A8N32-SLI and they were closed with "WILL NOT FIX". The developer who took the bug said that it was a platform problem and would probably be fixed when the platform developer (nvidia) shipped their drivers.
So far, no drivers, so I'm unable to use copy of Vista RTM i was given for reporting this bug! ...

Ive experienced the same problem running Vista RTM. Im using a Gigabyte Mobo, KLN8 Pro SLI. I had 3 gb of RAM, 2 x 1gb and 2 x 512mb. ... the strange thing is that when i first plugged in my external drive, it worked a charm. This was the same day I installed Vista. Next day, bang no external drive.
... Ive since removed my 2 x 512 sticks and its working perfectly. ...The fact that it worked the first time however seems to indicate that this is more Vista related than Nvidia.

So this could be related to how much RAM you are using, please post your RAM configuration. And if so, sounds like some bios workarounds may fix it, or maybe drivers need to fix it, in both cases, that will probably have to come from Nvidia.
In any case, it does not look like there is a solution at this moment. Have to wait for the release, and possible beyond that, or, you can maybe remove some RAM if you are having the same problems as in that thread.
Could you enter your system information into the space for that in your User CP then enable viewing of it? Or could you make a
detailed signature listing all of your parts? This will help others answer this and future questions, and you only need to do it once. As an example of the level of detail we need, you can click on my sig or look at some of the others you see here. Thanks.
