Best Gaming Headset?

Anyone have any opinions on the best headset specifically for gaming?

Found this review on Toms' Hardware back in 2005 which recommends the:

Medusa 5.1 Surround Sound Headset by Speed-Link

http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/...ove/page2.html

Anyone try these out or have a better recommendation?

In the Hardforum, people tend to like, Beyer Dynamics DT770, Audiotechnica 700 and 900 (closed) and Sennheiser 555. Most of them dont trust gaming headsets because they tend to be inferior to real audio headsets but this stuff will cost you. Another gaming headset that has mixed reviews are the Razer Barracuda headsets. I have read that they are pretty accurate if you are playing FPS but they tend to not have enough bass. Let everyone know what you decide.

Guy in my clan uses the Medusa's. Says they sound really good paired up with his X-Fi. I can't see them being any better than any of the other ones suggested, though. Personally I've had a bunch of different pairs, but always came back to the trusty Sennheiser PC-150's.

I use the Zalman's 5.1 headphones. The comfortable fit is what I like.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

pc150's are about thes best i've found. easily as good as my expensive arsed 5.1 system with a creative x-fi doing the sound, maybe even better to my ears.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

I actually have Sennheiser pc160 now and they seem OK to me. I'm also running XP. I suspect I should invest in an Creative X-Fi gamer sound card like maybe this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102005

rather than use the integrated audio from my Asus A8NSLI board. Just wondering if there was greener grass...

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

if you got the money definately get the x-fi, you'll definately notice the difference over onboard audio, i even noticed between my audigy 2 i had prior to this card that there was a good bit of difference.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

I can't say what the "best" are...
but I can say that my LTB USB 5.1 surround sound ones are very good. built in removable mic also, if you like me need it for Counter Strike or the likes.

I am a big fan of the surround sound abilities of these, it's so much easier to identify where a sound came from

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

The Medusa 5.1's are supposed to be much better at surround. I've always wanted those but the price has kept me away. Also last time I looked (a long time ago) you couldn't even buy them in the USA.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

Another vote for the sennnhieser pc 150's i go through cheap headsets like crazy but so far these have lasted a lot longer and they stand up to the massive noise that everybody that has used voice chat knows happens from time to time.

I can hardly even tell i have them on sometimes now that they are worn in, but even new they are still realy comfy to wear.

If you want a relitivly cheap no frills set of solid gaming headphones these get my vote. i think i paid about $37 on new egg last year, and normaly i prob would have been replacing any other set of headphones that cheap, but these are still going strong.

Edit - http://www.medusa-usa.com/medusa-51-...6ce7e225f21b85 Wow those Medusa 5.1 do look pretty amazing, adding them to my wish list

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

i had the pc-150's they were good always hated the flimsy cables but they did last a couple years. i use a seperate mic and Senn HD-590s... the cable can detach from the headphones which for me has been a lifesaver.

Re: Best Gaming Headset?

I know lots of people who use the Medusa 5.1's. No complaints from them.

I just use my crappy little Logitech chat thingy purely for the fact that it goes round the back of my bald head. Can't stand phones that sit on top and leave a big sweaty mark! :P
