8800gt bad batch of pcb's bfg hit hardist

just got off phone with BFG tech support, the guy was VERY nice and informed me that he had talked to over 175 people whos 8800gt's do the same exect thing mine does, the cards work ok in 2d(not perfect, they studder a bit), but as soon as u try and do anything that uses or trys to access more of the card then basic 2d desktop apps the system will BSOD and restart.

he said i could post this wherever i could think to post it, DONT BUY BFG 8800GT's for the next week or 2 let the bad ones get out of the retail chanil, both of the ones i found to be bad where from bestbuy in the portland OR area, he said its been from allover the country tho so watch it, also i found a few reports of the rare pny, msi and gigabyte cards doing the same thing.

this isnt a troll or anything(my buddy got slaped at TPU for suposedly trolling with this info) its just a ligit warrning to help ppl avoid what i went thru

EDIT

Let me make this VERY clear, I am not targeting BFG with any ill will, infact they are in the top 3 companys i will be looking at for an 8800gt if i get one 2 weeks from now.
i just wanted to let everybody know that there where some issues with SOME of the 8800gt's on the market other then slow fan speeds and overheating, please dont ASSume that im trying to say bfg is bad, their support ROCKS in my oppenion, i called between 10 and 11pm, got quick responce and got an honest answer to my situational experiance, far better then some other companys i wont name.

as to "proof" that im not alone and that its not only bfg.

Ply
and xfx is another of my top 3 choices (evga is the 3rd)

EDIT 2: highlited the fact that im not saying to not buy bfg, im just saying wait and give a little time for the problem units to clear the shelves.

ok i got yet another card, havent oppened it yet, trying to deside wether to try it or to just try and sell it, best buy wont refund you cash if its over 250$ they force you to take a giftcard or mail you a damn check......so i drove 25miles and got yet another card.........

so hard to deside wether to sell or try and use..........

not gonna call him back, just wanted to give you a heads up, avoid BB 8800gt cards for now(they only seem to have them from bfg) in a week or 2 i would expect they would be out of the market(the bad card)

they think it was bad PCB's from nvidia, since all card makers buy their pcb's from nvidia if they want to make an nvidia card.

yeah, not all of them are bad, but a large number have been, and over at TPU somebody got a bad XFX one so far, just worriesome that a new card that everybodys buying is having issues like this, and most of the ones that failed are from bestbuy stores it seems, meh, hopefully it gets better soon

Re: 8800gt bad batch of pcb's bfg hit hardist

yes thats me, and they called and asked if there where any problems with the 8800gt's they didnt act like they had one and just wanted to know if others had the same issue i found and called about.

and i never said "buy this brand or that brand but dont buy bfg" infact i said bfg support was very good, and was going to post that i may endup with a BFG card in 2 weeks when it "should" be safe to buy one localy again from BB, im not here making up rummors and trying to hurt sales, just want to keep people from ending up like me buying a card that they cant game on or eve access the control panil of, mind you with tax this cost me $309 for the card that i then find out FROM BFG NIGHT TECH SUPPORT has had ALOT of call just like mine, had i known this was gonna endup having me attacked for warrning about it i would have recorded the call and put up an audio file of it......

I was thinking about picking up a BFG 8800GT. This thread is just a good excuse to wait a couple weeks. No sense in rushing it, and like the PCPerAudiocast said... let prices settledown a bit.

You are free to do what you will, but don't do it based on this guy's posts.

I ran across his claims and verified with NVIDIA and BFG there is no "bad batch" of cards.

Can't comment on this poster's motives, but his information is false, and this sort of thing should be illegal.

Re: 8800gt bad batch of pcb's bfg hit hardist

yeah i been trying to remmber what i use to find the pny and evga ones for google search terms, at least i have 1 confermation on tpu for the problem.

i would bet alot of the people who got these cards dont post on forums, they probbly just returned them and eather got replacements or cash back, or they rmad them to the makers without really knowing what the issue was, and again duno ifi said it here it could just be in the regon im in that got hit by the large number of 8800gt's that bsod on anything above 2d use.

i tested these cards(both of them) on
tforce550 as in system specs here
m2n-sli delux + 550watt epower with 20+20amps on the 12v rails
dell p4 630 system + enermax 450watt with 16+18 12v rails
friends gigabyte q6600 systems(he brought it over just for testing. 1000watt fortron psu didnt read the rails specs.

on the other hand my buddys GTX(8800) worked fine in here even under 3d....so it MUST be bad pcb's/componants on some cards, otherwise it wouldnt BSOD on both intel and amd systems on such varrieing chipsets that are all stable with an 8800gtx card in them.

i returned the card today got my $ back, will wait 2 weeks and see whats avalable at the time, be it an 8800gt or 3850/3870 card or whatever, i just want it to work and give good value for my $!!!!!

look man , i dont know you, im no trying to hurt nvidia or bfg, if i was trying to do that i could have made up a better story to do it, and i would have said simply not to buy any of the cards ever, insted of stating what the tech rep from bfg told me to "wait a week or 2 by then it should be ok to echange it for a working one"

what would i have to gain by postint his?

i dont have any stake in any companys involved, i simply dont want somebody to endup going nuts like i was thanks to this issue thinking my system was screwed up or that it may have been a driver problem, i spent 4hrs trying to make the first card work, exchanged it(had to drive 15 miles to exchange) spent 45min trying diffrent systems with the 2nd card same issues, so i called BFG when i realised their 24/7 number was on the inside flap of the box, and the rep i talked to told me what i posted here........

and dangtx........if u want me banned then i guess you really must hate me.......

You'd be surprised at the sort of shenanigans I encounter on the forums I moderate....actually you wouldn't.

I think you should be banned as well, and hauled into court for libel. I know for a fact BFG didn't tell you what you've posted here.
