Antec Skeleton: Open Air Case

http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=454

Quote:
Antec gave us a sneak peek at an early prototype most controversial case design yet: the Skeleton. It's a totally open air case design, your motherboard is mostly exposed and sits on the upper level of the "case" while below it you have room for a power supply, optical drive and hard drive. The entire thing is cooled by a slow spinning 250mm fan and there's enough room to passively cool your CPU with a good heatsink.

Availability will be around September of this year and pricing has yet to be determined. What you see in the gallery is a very early prototype, the final product will be made out of better materials and have some minor changes to allow for things like larger video cards.
Pics in the link.

I like the idea - very simple to lean over and nuke it with some Dust-Of if need be....although I can see my cat snuggling up with anything warm, or my kids bouncing one object or another off the GPU.....

Re: Antec Skeleton: Open Air Case

How.... interesting. If newegg keeps running their free shipping promo on Antec by the time it's release, I might be game.

Damn I've got the same thing with a motherboard box on a top shelf with PSU and HDD on second shelf. I could be making millions!

The liquid cooling on that is suspicious.

i wonder how much it'll cost at launch. that's a pretty good invention. it may not be that expensive, though.

Re: Antec Skeleton: Open Air Case

Minor update at the tech... Some new pics as well.

At Computex earlier this year, Antec showed us a prototype of the Skeleton. We recently received a sample of the final product. The whole chassis looks different now, which is good. Let's first start with a quick discussion of the case functionality. Who would need or want something like this? Frankly, I don't. I like small and sleek cases, preferably stored under my desk where I don't see or hear the PC. However, this case may be great for people that frequently change motherboard jumpers, and add or reconfigure other items. Some might even like the appearance of the case, which is a highly subjective area; many of us think it looks rather ugly, but as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... <snip - link for more>

Re: Antec Skeleton: Open Air Case

I posted links to that case in a thread about case air flow LOL. I don’t know but at 140.00 bucks the case is not for everyone. It’s not something I would have in a house where kids were around it. One spilt can of soda and it’s all over.

More for show than for practicality IMO

I agree with you. Any drink in close proximity to that-dare I say "case" - and you're asking for trouble.

I wonder is it possible to fit a water cooling system to the case? I would imagine that it would look very slick.
