The geforce 9800gx2 needs a minimum of 580W @ 40A and i'm to be using a 550W Antec Basiq with 3 12V rails with 1 25A and 2 22A rails to a total of 69A. That should be PLENTY of power to run a single 9800GX2, right?

i dont know most PSU only advertise their peak performance of there units so it may not beable to even do 550W for an exstended period of time. i find it dirty that they wouldnt advertise what the unit itself is rated rathertthey post the peak of it.
so if i were you i would dump the PSu ( give it to some kid down the street let him build a low end computer around it lol ) and buy something in the 650-750 range!
The EVGA 9800 GX2 requires at least a 600W PSU with 28A on the 12V rail.
Either way, you may be pushing it with the Antec 550. You can give it a shot, if things become unstable, then you'll probably need a more powerful unit.
i'm betting it'll work fine. what nv suggests your psu be is usually going to be more than you'll need some 90% of the time. so long as it's a reputable psu (read some reviews to see what its real power is) it should be enough, even more than enough.
nv is going to cover their butts by suggesting more psu than you really do need, instead of going with a bare minimum requirement themselves. this way there's less fault on them if someone has a crappy or underpower psu, or even just an overloaded psu that should otherwise work fine.
also if you don't have enough of the right power connectors for the card, chances are you'll just be better off with a new psu, you can get some really nice 600 watt + units for ~100 bucks and they'll likely last you for the foreseable future.
i am willing to bet however that your current psu will work just fine.

First, I agree with Brandito's take on things. But just so you know you don't just add your +12v rails together to get the total of sustained/continuous power across the +12v rails. You take the wattage on all +12v rails and divide the total by 12.
Unfortunately Antec doesn't make it clear what the total wattage is and I wasn't able to track it down. So I turned to the PSU list over on Guru3D which says your power supply has a total of 32a on the combined +12v rails. I haven't found an error in their list yet, so I'm betting it's accurate.
Anyway, as I started off by saying, I agree with Brandito and the rest. Try it and find out, no harm, no foul. Good luck.
ok sounds good. I just had a thought. I'm building this PC with a friend and he wants the best gpu possible, And i take it we r making the right choice on the Beastly Geforce 9800GX2? I was wondering how well a Zotac Geforce 8800GT Amp! *pre overclocked* with a HR-03 GT cooler would do Ever *MORE overclocked? possibly close to a 9800GTX? from the reviews the 8800gt amp! runs about as fast, if not faster than a Ultra... I was just wondering with a Little skill and patience, could it possible get Close to a 9800GTX/GX2?

if he wants the best ati and nv are releasing said cards in the next week or so.
yeah as always well, as of within the last few years. lol. I think of ati like ford. Quanity not quality. applies the same to price. Nvidia's the exact opposite! seems like it all started when amd and ati joined forces. ya know?
