So im looking at video cards and i dont know what to choose. Basically i got say $275. I want the best graphics card that will give me the highest possible fps overall in all games. I was looking at the 1gb 4870 and the GTX 260 core 216 edition. What do you guys think, I will take other cards into consideration if you know of better one's.
cpu-Q6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz mention if you think their will be bottlenecking plz.
something else you could consider is two 4830s in crossfire since you got the motherboard to support it....not sure how much gains you will see at that resolution though...might be something to look into.
This pretty much sums it up (the chart at the bottom if it doesn't go there). Bottom line is that it depends on what games you like to play. Overclocking ability might be a factor also if you're into that. Personally, I'd go with the 4870 but I like to play a lot of OpenGL games and ATi tends to give nVidia a spanking in that department (look at ET: Quake Wars in the chart).

I read a review a couple of weeks ago showing the GTX 260 (216) beating the HD4870 in every game tested...but that's not supported by the graph that Prime linked too.
It would be hard to base your decision between these two cards purely on performance. You may need to "explore your feelings" (young padawan ) on how confident you are in ATI drivers vs. Nvidia drivers.

A couple of weeks ago nVidia released new drivers to coincide with the launch of multiple reviews with pretty much the exact same games at the exact same settings tested that produced those results. Was 'a bit fishy' IMO.

This I can totally agree with.
The fact is that if you game at e.g. a resolution of 1680x1050 you'll be hard pushed to find much (if any) performance difference between the $150+ graphics cards. You really have to hand pick the settings and set them very aggressively and still you'll actually have a hard time producing any noticeble real world performance differences.
