Exclamation Left 4 Dead 2 Steam 4-Pack pre-order deal for $135 ($33.75 each) - CLOSED

11/7/09 Update by Lenny/
We have successfully purchased 16 copies of L4D2 at the reduced 4-pack price through this thread so far but at this point I've decided to discontinue the offer to coordinate the group purchases. Enjoy the game
-------------------------------------------------------------

So is anyone else gonna do the 4 pack pre-purchase deal?

Group Purchase Rules
  • Members must have a minimum of 100 posts to participate
  • The group purchase process must be followed in the order explained below
Group Purchase Process
  1. One of the four members agrees to be the buyer of the L4D2 4-pack
  2. The other 3 members will send a PM (private message) to Lenny (Gaming forum moderator) containing your Steam account name or the email address associated with your Steam account.
  3. Lenny will reply to the PM with an email address to which $33.75 will be sent via PayPal ONLY. On the payment screen if there is any fee (like if your PayPal account is linked to a credit card) you MUST pay the fee.

The PayPal payment must be sent in the following manner:
    • On the "Send Money" screen click the "Personal" tab and select "Gift" then click "Continue"
    • On the "Review your payment and send" screen verify the fee is $0.00 or if there is a fee the check box indicates YOU are paying the fee.
    • Verify amount is $33.75 and click the "Send Money" button.
  4. After Lenny receives payment from the 3 members he will send the Steam account/email address info to the 4-pack buyer.
  5. The buyer can then make the 4-pack purchase and gift the 3 extra copies to the 3 members
  6. When each of the 3 members receives their copy they will send a PM to Lenny confirming receipt.
  7. After Lenny receives confirmation from all 3 members he will send $101.25 ($33.75 x 3) to the buyer via PayPal
Interested at one-time but unable to purchase prior to closing (need 4)

4 of us would have to go in, one pays and we pay that person our 1/4.

makes the game 33 bucks basically.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Look here in the purchase options:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/

$135 /4 = $33.75 each

Won't the buyer incur PayPal fees for receiving money from the other 3? If so, the 3 who are paying the buyer probably should add something to offset that. I'm not sure what amount would be appropriate (I'm not familiar with PayPal fees). Maybe add $1.25 and send $35 each? (just guessing - too much? too little?)

If you guys need a buyer I'd be willing to help with that.

If you send the money with Paypal as "personal" no fees should be incurred.

I'd be down for one if we do this.

Right but don't most people have their PayPal linked to a credit card? I know I do. I thought the fees were higher for that?

Edit: I think I found the answer here.

I never knew this but it looks like there is no fee if you do as mmetin explained or even if your account is linked to a credit card you have the option to pay the free yourself. You just need to select the correct options when sending the money.
Quote:
Bottom line, if you want to avoid paying fees to paypal, then classify the transaction as "Personal" as a "Gift" and then fund it with a withdrawal from a verified attached bank account. If you don't have a verified attached bank account, then at least classify it as "Personal" "Gift/Living Expense/Payment Owed" and it will give you the option of paying the fee yourself or letting the recipient cover the fee.

For a transaction worth $33.75, the fee is going to be $1.28. Or 2.9% + $0.30.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Ok this is the plan as I understand it. I'll place the order for the 4-pack. Those 4 will be for me, Brandito, mmettin and Zetachi. I'm not buying a copy for Buu now as he hasn't been gaming much on the PC lately. leroy329 is a regular but we are one short. Do we need to consider buying a second 4-pack?

i bet we can get 3 more guys to join us so zach can get in on this too. maybe create a thread?

maybe one of you mods can accept funds and when we get 4 more? if you wanted to do it again lenny you should be able to give out all 4 copies since you'll already have the one of your own. i think that'd be the best way to do it if we were going to have a second round. you, z or matt would be good to head up fund collection.

this way they know they have a trustworthy individual in charge.

Guess we should jump on this soon, before they decide to do away with it

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 Steam 4 Pack

I've purchased the first 4-pack. I will send a PM to Zetachi, mmettin and Brandito shortly.

Edit: You all should have your copies now. Just send the payment per my PM.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2 Steam 4 Pack

I don't think any of us four will be able to purchase the second 4-pack. Unless I'm missing something it seems you are required to keep at least one of the copies for yourself.

that kinda sucks...wonder if we can get around it somehow?

maybe we could still use a mod's paypal account as like an escrow? collect funds from 3 people and hold them in your account, then when a 4th purchases the 4 pack and transfers the copies to the other three you send funds to that person?

seems like the best way to do it so no one get's screwed. if the deal falls through people will get their money back.
