Unhappy Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU > 11/20/09 AND ANOTHER!!

The OCZ PSU in YsSMN (pull down) appears to have gone to the hardware junkyard in the sky. Came down to the office Wed morning I think it was and the system was "off". When I hit the power button to see if it would start, there was........nothing, no fans, no poof, no nutton.

I removed the unit and connect a mobo jumper and powered it up, the PSU fan didn't even turn, so hooked a cable to it to power the 2 x 120mm fans on my tech station and still nothing. SO am starting RMA proceedures with the egg as it was purchase March of this year.

Was wondering if anyone has had an issue with the ModXStream Pro series not liking long periods of heat?? I didn't think it was getting that hot, but it was set up to assist in cooling the cpu. The main thing it was doing was Classic and GPU folding 24/7.

Re: Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU

RMA'ed back to the egg but forgot that I went with a MIR with it and.......

"We recently received your RMA and your return was then sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. We regret to inform you that the item could not be recognized by our system because the product received is missing the serial number label. Without the serial number label, we cannot determine if the item was sold to you by Newegg.com; serial numbers that have been removed automatically void Newegg's warranty according to the RMA terms listed on our website. The merchandise is consequently being shipped back to you and should arrive in approximately 5 - 10 business days."

So it looks like now it'll be on to OCZ direct, anyone have the pleasure in dealing with them???

Re: Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU

Yeah Ive had to RMA some memory to OCZ about 3 times and I JUST recently (got it back last thursday) RMA'd a 600W OCZ PSU. I had no issue with their RMA process. It is pretty straight forward and takes a pretty standard amount of time. They arent very fast but no manufacturer is. I think it took about 2 days for processing.

To me that is quit fast!!! The quickest RMA deal I've ever had was some G. Skill that needed to be reflashed to work with my Kuma. Shipped it on a Friday and checked on it's status the following Thursday only to discover it was in my mail box!

Thanks for the response, just need to wait for it to arrive from the left coast!

good customer service. I'd buy OCZ just for that reason alone.

I refuse to use DVD disks as they die by oxidization, get scratched and would take too many of them to write for the data I have.

Re: Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU

I've RMAed memory, no problem. That PSU looks like it is a TopPower unit (could be wrong, basing it on the heat sinks) I had a TopPower made Tagen that worked fine till it's capacitors failed after about 3 years.
As you know I stick to SeaSonic made units now.

On the rebate, they usually want the UPC code off the box, why did you send the serial # sticker off the PSU?

That is a good question as I'm having trouble finding my copy of the rebate submittal. Have to wait 'til the box returns to really see what they are talking about!

It wasnt that fast. The processing was like 2-3 days but total time was like 2 weeks or something. About 10-11 days of shipping all together and 2-3 days of processing.

Well, we'll have to see what happens! Just ran the situation through their Support forum and now have requested an RMA. The PSU is due back from the Egg tomorrow.

Don't know what's happening with OCZ and their Psu's but I'm on my third Elite Extreme 1000 watter inside of 12 months, already replaced twice by the distributor's warranty, but if (when ?) this one fails I'll need to RMA to OCZ overseas, so it'll be going in the bin instead....
Still going strong at the moment, and a good, stable, quiet Psu for a 1000W unit, fingers crossed I got a good one at last....

Re: Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU

The one PSU I had from PC Power & Cooling PSU's died after 4 years and 11 months. They took it back, repaired, and sent it back to me within 2 weeks. The warranty's are long, 5 years, and their customer service is first rate. You will pay the most for one. I have found that 2 areas to not be cheap in a PC are the memory and the PSU.

Re: Seemed to Have "Kilt" Another PSU > 11/20/09 AND ANOTHER!!

1. The OCZ........ they were great!! Guess it pays doing it through their forum as it seemed to make getting the RMA painless and as stated above shipped on Friday the 6th. "Officially" received it on the 10th and exchanged the replacement the SAME DAY!!! Left the factory on the 11th (ups) and had it in my grubby hands on the 16th. It came as a shinkwrapped package and appears to be retail new not refurb.

2. The new death....... When the OCZ died I wanted to continue folding with the 4870 in YsSMN so pulled the Infiniti out of Kermit. Because I felt that heat may have contributed to the OCZ's failure I installed a Silverstone "squirel cage" fan at the rear and left the side panel off. Well got home from work Wed and DOA. When I tried a jumper block I hear (feel?) a zap in my hearing aid and the safty shut down alarm would start beeping.

As a side note the SG03 has 2 x 120mm thermally controlled fans in the front controlled by a temp probe at the cpu and mosfet heat sink.
