Your base system will have to use the parts provided. But you are free to add more things like watercooling, custom case, more memory, additional storage etc etc. but you have to at least use the parts provided. SUPPORT THE SPONSORS!

But this contest is not just about who can build the most high end setup. That's something anyone can do...

What we are looking for is how would you use these parts and the ASUS Xtreme Design features to help you do the things you want to achieve from your system.

For example: If you're a noob at overclocking, maybe you can utilize the Turbo V Evo to do the manual work for you. Maybe you want this system to edit your movies, or music, or play games. Tell us what you want to achieve with this system.

And finally we want to see videos, images, sketches, descriptions, anything... of how YOU would make this system look. Custom case? Purchased case? will it look super clean? or super ugly? Make it your own.

Make it within your reach as well. Because if we pick you as a winner, we want to see this system built!

We want winners to talk about their experience with the products they received, and how Xtreme Design features made your life better.

Does that help?

Re: ASUS Xtreme Design Contest!

You don't need to buy the parts. Just tell us how you would build your dream computer with these parts and anything else you want add to the mix. If we like your idea. You'll win the sponsored parts to build the idea you presented.

So if you want to build a case out of cardboard give us some drawings of what it will look like. Then with the parts we provide you. How would you use it.

Re: ASUS Xtreme Design Contest!

The only thing we don't provide is the case and optical drive. We left it open for you to design or purchase your own case.

Re: ASUS Xtreme Design Contest!

So, basically this stage of the competition is to DESIGN what you want to build and WHY. Then ASUS will give 20 participants the components listed above to get rolling and move on to the next stage!

Re: ASUS Xtreme Design Contest!

ASUS server motherboard or large workstation motherboard
with 16-32 DIMM slots supporting between 128GB and 1024GB (1TB) of RAM:
Uppermost 20-30 GB is reserved for OS (see next 2 articles for details):

http://www.supremelaw.org/patents/bi...lication.1.htm
http://www.supremelaw.org/patents/bi...lication.2.htm
(currently no pictures or diagrams available: see text for full details)

Computer BIOS Enhancements to Create and Load
Memory-Resident File Systems ("MRFS")
for High-Speed System and Application Software
(see links to Provisional Patent Applications above).

The First Supplement (above) adds BIOS support to create and format a C: system partition in random access memory (“RAM”) before Windows Setup is launched the very first time.

An installation program like Windows Setup need not know any of the underlying BIOS details in order to run to successful completion.

When the Windows Setup CD-ROM is inserted and launched the very first time, it should detect the newly created ramdisk like any other disk drive, and present it to the user as one among other available targets for the C: system partition. Such integration should be seamless.

(After successful installation, all OS tasks will do I/O at RAM speeds unhampered by slow rotating disk drives.)

Sincerely yours,
/s/ Paul A. Mitchell, Inventor and
Systems Development Consultant

I would say it is not required, but feel free to add them if it will enhance the specific usage of your system in any way!

Re: ASUS Xtreme Design Contest!

I just want to acknowledge Ryan publicly for
helping out enormously yesterday with a few
problems we experienced with our concept above.

To date I have been participating in the User Forums
at Tom's Hardware almost exclusively, but Ryan's
consistent professionalism is giving me a good
reason to switch to PCPer's Forums instead.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, Ryan! YOU'RE THE BEST.

I visit your website at least once every day,
because your IT coverage is excellent.
