Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Released

I downloaded 9.10 NBR and installed it on my MSI Wind, needless to say it doesnt play nice with it. The brightness goes back and forth constantly. Apparently its an issue with how the BIOS and OS interact with each other. Other than that, everything works fine. Theyre busy on a fix for it as we speak, so it may be a few weeks before I try again.

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Released

I'm using it on a Dell Studio 1535, upgraded from 9.04, working great. I also installed on my test laptop to check out the installer, and that one's also working fantastic.

Your Wi-FI Work? I've installed in on a Sammy NC10 everything is great apart from Wi-Fi it will not connect (even if I set the router to unsecured/open.)

I'm not alone seen alot of fourms with people owning Atom based netbooks having similar issues.

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Released

I do not believe Ubuntu makes any backup when upgrading versions. So you're left with one of three options:
  • Restore a backup (if you have one available)
  • Like you say, reinstall 9.04 from scratch
  • See if we can get your video working. What video card are you using?

Lets first try booting up into Recovery mode. This will give you just a terminal. Then try these commands:
Code:
su - cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old Xorg -configure cp xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf init 6
Explanation of the above commands:
  1. First line changes you over to Super User mode (root) and you should find your self in the /root directory (root's home directory).
  2. We back up your existing xorg.conf file to xorg.conf.old
  3. We create a new xorg.conf file (located in the current directory).
  4. We copy that new file over top of the existing xorg.conf file
  5. We try and fire up X

If the above works, you should be able to reboot and everything will be fine. If not, we may have to reinstall the Radeon drivers. If you get any error messages while doing this. Try and post them. Especially anything with SegFault or Error or (EE).
