I have spent a fortune on my PC and still cannot overclock!
I have an Asus P5w DH Deluxe Motherboard
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz
A fully watercooled case with CPU waterblock
8GB of Corsair Dominator Memory, 2.1v, 5-5-5-15, PC2-8500
Windows 7 64bit
The problems have gone back over a year, I initially had OCZ memory, a matched pair of sticks which where 4GB and PC2-6400. The problem i had is the RAM would never detect at PC2-6400, and setting it to this speed manually made me get "system overvoltage or overclock failed"
I gave up and bought the Corsair memory and windows 7 etc to go with it. At first i bought 4GB set and managed to get the cpu speed (think its FSB) to 301, this gave me 2.7GHZ and the PC was stable and reported as PC2-8500. However, simply going into the bios and setting the ram to PC2-8500 again caused "system overvoltage or overclock failed". The ram will never detect itselft as being 8500, it always reported as 5300 unless o overclocked.
Now i have bought another 4GB of exactly the same RAM, and i cannot get the FSB speed about 275! if i do, windows blue screens or i get "system overvoltage or overclock failed".
Can anyone help me, i have spent a fortune on a watercooled case etc and havent been able to get above 2.7ghz! im not back to 2.4GHz at the moment!
I also have updated to the latest bios, made no difference.
Thanks

Re: Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard - Can't OVerclock!
i used one of the motherboards pre set overclock settings and it hs given me 3.0GHZ thats stable, but the bios thinks the memory is PC2-5300, does this matter?
Re: Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard - Can't OVerclock!
The MB setting implemented the memory divider (FSB 5:4 DRAM) with the resulting speed DDR2 833 bandwidth @6600. If you continue to bump the FSB the memory speed will increase at that ratio.
Shouldn't effect the performance much with the large caches of the C2D.
