I put in a new graphics card( Nvid9500 ) and my computer got slower

I have a 9500GS Geforce Nvidia Graphics card, It started making noise about a year after i owned it so I used my warrenty and shipped a new one, Im not good at computers what so ever so i switched the Cards ( it has a fan on it ) , After i put in the new one, I wasnt able to play games such as Call of duty 4, Assassins creed, and others without it getting all slow and glitchy also, when i listen to music the computer also gets very slow , I Have 6gb of ram also so i can run multiple apps at ounce, I tried reinstalling the video card , Tried updating it at Nvidia.com and i did but nothing really has changed, I just replaced the video card with the same one and all these problems are starting to happen , Can someone please instruct me how to fix these problems? Thank you very much

Are you sure you didn't accidently bump anything when you switched cards? The first thing that I can think of from the top of my head, is that you might have bumped the CPU fan/cooler, and now it no longer cools the CPU as it should. A computer will still work to a certain extent with a non properly cooled CPU, but you won't get too far, as explained by your symptoms.

First thing to check, if that is indeed the problem, take the side of your case off, turn on the computer *with* the side off, and check the CPU fan is spinning. It should be on top of an alumminium block of some sort. If it isn't spinning, find the power lead for the fan. Follow it all the way onto the motherboard (the thing that everything connects into), and make sure it's plugged in. If it is, unplug it, and plug it back in. If it isn't, look for 4 protruding small pins coming out from the motherboard near the CPU area. It should have in writing near it: CPU_FAN, or something to that effect. Plug it in if it isn't plugged in.

I hope this helps

You remember to plug the power into the card? Or did you unplug a power connector somewhere?

Re: I put in a new graphics card( Nvid9500 ) and my computer got slower

First off, when u recived this card back did u check to make sure they sent u the right card? 9500 comes in lots of flavors ddr2 or ddr3, to ensure that u got the right card see if u can find the orginal purches slip and see what the specs are on that and then check the manual that came with it, but ultimately u need to check the card its self to see whats up. once u have the info from the card ie version and pin go to nvidias website and cross reffrence it to the information that u had or could gather about the old card. ( doing this for both cards takes time but saves you time on the phone and the forums) if u are not sure where to find this info go to the oem website and check out the info they got for that model and it will tell u where to find all this stuff on the card. after all that is done and its all the same as before then u need a fresh install of all nvidia software, not just the drivers but all the other bells and wistles they offer ie software ui control center. Reasoning is that it saves a profile of the old card wich may have the same force ware but has diffrent chip ranges for irqs and such on it hence the slow down. sry for rambeling but if that dont work there is plenty more crap we can go thru to speed it back up.
