I was looking for something in the range of $700ish. So, I took the budget system, switched the video for a 9800 GTX and added in accessories from Newegg. How will this system fare for $700? I want to play the newer shit at decent FPS, but I was restricted for cash. I was looking at Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age: Origins as a starting point.
Were there things potentially wrong with the budget systems and/or this video switch that I should keep in mind?

Phenom X3 is basically a X4 with one buggy core turned off.
I never understood three core CPU's. You would be better off with four cores over 3 cores regardless of a L3 cache.
Your CPU is a good pick, and you shouldn't be disappointed.

I refuse to use DVD disks as they die by oxidization, get scratched and would take too many of them to write for the data I have.

There are barely any games that will use all four cores......
In that case the extra cache does matter.
Super Pi the PII X3 vs AthlonII X4 and you will see
Eek. Put it together, put it in the case, went to power it on and nothing! I think I should've used the anti-static mat on the motherboard box first to test it. First things I thought of were the power jumpers, the ATX12V cable and processor installation. I'm going to take it out of the case later and try to see what I can do. The PSU has a 2x4 plug setup for the ATX12V. I plugged them in the closest to the orientation.
