WHS: Hard drive Issues

Hi everyone,

New to WHS and I have a question about hard drive space. When I go to my computer it only shows me my system drive. The drive with the os installed. However I have two other drives both 279gbs. Those are not viewable in my computer, however you can pull it up through the WHS console.

My issues is that I want to put folders on those 279gb hard drives. I have no idea the drive letter or how to make folders on them. Any suggestions?

That only lets me add folders not drives. I don't even know the drive letter. All i know is that it knows the drives are there. I can't seem to access them or add folders to them.

I have no idea. All i know is there is no drive except the os drive in the my computer. The only time I see the other two drives is when I open the console and go to storage. It list my os WDC, and two Seagates. I can't open them though, at least not from the storage area of the console

Ok,

On WHS you will only "see" 2 virtual drives

One for the OS and one for storage...

Regardless of the number of physical drives in the system

you will see the physical drives in "my computer"

Ok so in my computer I only have the logical partition with the os and a logical partition called storage with the rest of my my physical space. There are no drives showing my seagate hard drives.

Correct...

The server will use all of the storage drives as one space (virtual drive)

The XP way of thinking (C: /Games, /Music, etc.) is gone

Everything is in a folder structure now ( //server/music for an example)

Hope this helps

ah thanks Matt. I thought he just wanted to add some folder names. But what Matt said is correct. One drive to rule them all.

Re: WHS: Hard drive Issues

Wait hold on, if it uses all my space as one logical drive. Then why does the stor drive inside "my computer" only show that I have 49.1gbs. I should have like 550+gbs.

Re: WHS: Hard drive Issues

under my computer you should have 2 drives SYS and Data

Did you ever add the 2 new drives to the server pool?

If not you need to add them. If yes can you provide a screen shot so that we can see how you are set up. Makes no sense that all you have is 49 GB

1) are they empty? because if not when you add them all data will be lost.
2) go the WHS console server storage tab, right click and add drive.

Re: WHS: Hard drive Issues

hmm odd. Your server storage tab is accurate but the my computer is not. OK I'm stumped. I would tend to say ignore it but I'll see if I can dig up anything else.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. I was scratching my head for hours trying to figure this out.
