PC won't boot

PC froze on me last night and I had to manually shut it down and reboot. When it booted back up it froze on the post screen. So I shut it down again, it booted up and everything seemed fine. Checked the event viewer and nothing was reported. Comp ran fine rest of the night. Got up this morning and turned it on and got an error message saying previous overclocking failed and that default values were reset. Problem with that is I don't have anything overclocked. Restarted cause it froze on that screen. Finally windows boots up, but I noticed my date in windows was set to 1/1/02!!! Fixed that and went to work. Now I come home, turn it on and it won't pass post screen. Fans turn on, keyboard lights up sometimes, but nothing happens. Won't post or go into windows. Could it be power supply? I was thinking that was the most logical choice but wanted to get some opinions before I go out and buy on. I figured it had to be that or the mobo. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ok I just came across something and as dumb as it first sounded I tried it anyway. Someone said to unplug the power cord and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then plug the power cord back in and turn on the pc. And it worked. I had to change the date and time again in windows so not sure what's going on there. Running virus scan now so we'll see what happens.

Just a shot here but how old is the motherboard in your rig ? Have you tried replacing the cmos battery ?

Sorry to hear that I always try the little inexpensive things first. Well it's not all bad news then at least you get some new tech in the process. Good Luck to ya !
