Got everything set up for Eyefinity. Been working on trying to get the settings right for games for about five hours now with no luck.
All three monitors display. They work very well in the desktop, surfing the web, etc., but in CoD: MW and CoD:WaW games all three screens display, but everything is short and stretched really bad. To the point where it's not playable.
Anyone heard of this?
Watching the video here http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=793 and I noticed that in the Catalyst Control Center he has "HydraVision" drop down option, which I do not have, and he also has different options for resolution. I figure having different monitors than what he does could be why, but I don't know for sure. The highest I can go, resolultion-wise, is 5760x1080. My monitors have a 1920x1080 native resolution.
Monitors are 27" LG W2753V x3 and GPU is, of course, HD 5870.
Really bummed about this not working. I really (really, really) hope it's just a setting of some sort and not that I wasted close to $1,000 on two more monitors, cables, and an active DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
type that into console but change 65 to 80. note you must keep the ""
you might try higher numbers but i believe the engine only allows up to 8080 is generally fine for a single widescreen, but 3 it might still be too small a fov.
i think the locked down fov for cod games is really what the issue is here. sounds like MW2 is going to be even worse as that game will have no console support and lock everyone to a fov of 65, which for some can cause you to get literally sick from playing.
i'm afraid it might not be possible to get eyefinity to really look good in cod games using a 3x1 eyefinity setup in landscape mode. i think for those games portrait mode might be preferred even though i'd rather use the landscape setup myself. i wouldn't blame this issue on ati, it's more the game. heck you can't really even blame the game because they came out before eyefinity, but if mw2 does indeed lock you to a 65 fov, then totally blame the developer.
btw i don't have nor have i used eyefinity, i'm just speculating that this is the likely cause for your issues.

Unfortunately, changing the fov from 65 to 80 didn't seem to make a difference. By the way, I had to use a " / " to make your command work in the console. It was definitely something to try. I'm all out of ideas. Heh
80 appears to be the highest allowable setting. Console said between 65-80. I really saw no difference between the two settings besides the screen blinking when I pressed Enter.
The more I hear about Modern Warfare II, the less likely I think I am to buy it. Most of the stuff they are making like console gaming is the stuff I loved most about PC version. PC gaming is still way better than console in many aspects, but some of the really, really cool features that PC users have had are being taken away even though they have been stupid successful in the past! Makes no sense to change it now! Especially since there are, last I checked, 130,000+ signatures on an online petition for MWII to have dedicated servers alone.
Anyhow, any other ideas on why my Eyefinity is working, just not working right?
Ok, yeah, I see the difference when on one monitor for sure. I wish I knew about this a year ago. It does show a slight bit more on the screen and seems to make things that much more vivid.
Still, however, stuck with a super stretched image across three screens.

it's probably a limitation of the engine.
can you take a screen shot of the eyefinity 3 monitor setup and then another of just a single monitor? do it looking in the exact same area as closely as you can, this will allow you to see exactly how much it is stretching it based on much you can see on the screen.
Ok, so it turns out that I'm seeing the same amount on one monitor in single monitor mode as I would on one monitor in Eyefinity mode. It's just, for some stupid dumb reason, extremely stretched in Eyefinity.
I think this picture'll show ya'll pretty well what I'm talkin' about. These are straight Print Screens saved to the computer, they have not been resized or modified whatsoever.
well that sucks. looks to be a game engine limitation. maybe it's an artificial limitation though? perhaps IW will get the stick out of their butts and allow you to adjust the fov to your own liking with a patch?
Well, it turns out I've had Eyefinity properly working the whole time.
It's the "game engine" on Call of Duty that's making the unplayable stretched image across the group of displays.
I downloaded Left 4 Dead 2 demo. and it is playing flawlessly across all three screens with no changes to my display settings. L4D 2 even changed my resolution in the game for me all by itself, and this is just the demo.! It's a very smart game. It's pretty cool, too. I don't think I like it as much as COD, but I think I'll buy it when it comes out. Need to do a little more research, though, to make sure its multiplayer is up to snuff.
I don't know anything about designing games, but could the stretching be something that can be fixed with a patch or something later in the future? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part? lol
i'm sure it could be fixed, but i don't think it will be. IW, the makers of cod4 and mw2, have shown they have little interest in catering to the special needs of pc gamers. they "balanced" the game for 65 fov so that's how you have to play it.
it'd be excellent if they did patch the games, but i really wouldn't get my hopes up, the cod franchise is practically dead in the water on pc.

I'm also not holdin' my breath for any sort of patch to make Eyefinity work with ANY old game(s). It very well may be difficult (and expensive) to do and for no cash in return. Just customer satisfaction, a year after the game was purchased, is no matter to 'em. Money talks!
You ain't kiddin'. IW made the next edition in the series, Modern Warfare II, a joke for PC gamers. There's boycott threads everywhere and an online petition. I, unfortunately, won't be buying the game because of the changes.
