I've been noticing that the popularity of the 5850/5870 as I'm sure all of your are aware of. But have you noticed the prices steadily increasing across the board for all of these cards? I'd like some opinions on this, since I feel they are doing it just to make more money. The cards came out at 289.00 for the 5850 and are now 315.00. They doing this to get more money out of us because of the popularity, or is it something else thats causing the prices to keep creeping up? I feel like the more we buy these cards and keep em' out of stock the more they'll just keep raising the price each time they come in stock until they find that price point that people just say "Ok enough is enough, I'll wait."
What do you all think about the pricing of the cards?

It's a simple case of demand outstripping supply, and retailers applying markups accordingly (or, as they call it, 'market adjustments'). Not an uncommon or unexpected situation, given the popularity of the cards.
Personally, I don't pay inflated prices for any PC component because once they become more readily available, price drops and rebates are inevitable.

The chip maker is having problems with 40mm keeping the supply low. So it is straight supply and demand. AMD would much rather sell twice as many cards at say 175 the the # that are selling at 315. If they have signed contracts they cant even raise the price to wholesalers.

I beleive the colapsing USD might have something to do with it. Anything that isn't in stock in the US that you import is bound to keep going up and up so long the the fed keeps baling out the banks with free money.
Can't blame ATI or retailers for this. It is entirely on TSMC and the customers buying them. The good news is that ATI says TSMC has gotten their shit together and availbility should improve very soon. So if you are looking to buy one of these cards soon it would be a good idea to wait.
