My first gaming build, Please help, especially if you did a gaming build urself.

Hi guyz,

I'm new to PC Perspective so I'm gonna introduce myself first:

Name: ------
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Hobbies: Computers, RC Toys, Electronics, ...

Well were done with that.

So I built my first computer about 6 months ago for personal use and it came out really well, Now i have a gaming build and its triple the cost of the one I built 6 months ago, so I'm being meticulous for this build. This build is for GAMING and MEDIA ENTERTAINMENT!

As far as over clocking, I might or I might not, so I got a 850W power supply just in case I will Over clock.

Link to my build : http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=11484505 - I realize that I'm being a bit greedy there with that build, I mean 1.6k = "WTF FOR A COMPUTER?" to alot of ppl.

Please feel free to give comments, suggestions, opinions about the build, I really hope this works out.

The main criticism I have is that you chose obsolete parts. DDR2 and and a not so good GPU.

I suggest switching to a Phenom II x4 945 95W TDP version

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-696-_-Product

Get the am3 version of the same board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128392

and switch to a ddr3 RAM kit.

The GPU is problematic. The nvidia high GPUs are overpriced and powerhogs, and the ATI's are out of stock.

My suggestion is to pick up one of these for now:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150436

and then wait for prices to settle in 3-6 months.

I couldn’t disagree with Mr Raider more.
1. Buy AMD only if money is an Issue
2. That memory is a 100% waste of money, Please don’t spend $250 on DDR2 memory and 8GB is way too much.
3. Nvidia Overpriced??? I don’t know what that dude has been smoking but Nvidia has some great cards out there for good money.
4. Buy a card now to turn around to buy another one later??? If you have money to waste then go ahead... no, wait... if you have money to burn buy a 5970 don’t listen to poster above.
5. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong the PSU you selected.

Your build is solid, Good luck.

Is 1.6k your budget for the entire pc? Do you want to buy a monitor and peripherals?

Have a look at the hardware leader-board http://www.pcper.com/hwlb.php? that's a great place to start.

With 1.6k i would probably look at a lynfield system.

Make sure you check back with us before you commit to any decisions.

he changed the build. The original post had an am2+ 920, AMD 770 am2+ board and a gtx 275.

Re: My first gaming build, Please help, especially if you did a gaming build urself.

Hi guyz, so my friends computer totally bombed.....The Motherboard and the CPU...something bad happened and they need a new computer....so I said I would build one for them since its a lot cheaper that way.

These are the parts they are buying :

Antec 900 Case

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5S

OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Active PFC Power Supply

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler

3D Fuzion 3DFR76256GSE GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card
- I know it says discontinued, but they already have this from their old computer

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

I have a few main questions that need to be answered :

1.) Are all the parts compatible?

2.) Is my power supply good enough?

3.) Is the build in overall good for everyday computing and a little online gaming?

4.) Please tell me if I can minimize the price and get more performance if not the same performance.

5.) Finally, tell me if this is going to work out and will satisfy my friend.

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) It's OK for general use. Gaming will be severely limited by the 1GB of RAM and the weak GPU.

4) At the risk of getting hammered by the previous poster, I will once again recommend going against Intel in this price bracket. Your choice of a ddr2 platform also seriously limits future upgrades

Look at the budget build here for some inspiration:
http://www.pcper.com/hwlb.php?guide4=y#guide4

If that build is too rich, you can downsize to an Athlon II 250.

If you are serious about gaming, you can get this CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103649

5) It will satify his needs for now. Future upgrades are limited.
