HD 4850 Driver Issues

I installed a HD 4850 on a new Windows 7. Before I install the drivers it works fine. Afterwards, it blacks out after the splash screen. I called ATI, they said that it's an motherboard issue since it has an onboard video. I asked them if it's a hardware problem they said it couldn't because since it booted without the driver that means its fine. Any advice?

Can you disable your integrated graphics via your BIOS?

Then find out. If you don't have the manual get the manual online from the board maker. Or just search the bios, it should be clearly marked.

I've looked in all the manual and the BIOS. Nothing there that says specifically turning off the onboard. Only switching primary graphics adapter to PCI-E, which I did.

Re: HD 4850 Driver Issues

The onboard video is disabled, it doesn't show up in device manager when I boot it up in safe mode. I think it's a problem with the drivers. I enabled boot logging, it seems to get hung up trying to load the WDDM 1.1 drivers. I see the line "Did not load etc. etc." every couple of lines. Is there a issue with Windows 7 and 4800 Series?

Re: HD 4850 Driver Issues

Link to his mobo manual for reference: ftp://174.142.97.10/manual/K10N78M.pdf

Me and nearly everyone I know currently has or has had 4800 series GPUs working perfectly with both Win7 32 and 64 bit versions. Your 4850 card itself is probably also working because it can boot without the installed drivers.

It is probably just some sort of weird incompatibility issue. Maybe BIOS update/settings or different drivers would help. I would've definitely pointed towards the integrated graphics adapter conflicting, but you said you already changed that so heh...

Do you have PCI-E as your primary graphics?
