NF7-S 2.0- best hardware- crappy Barton or is it me?

well after a couple of weeks, i think i'm near my threshold with this freakin' Barton.

i say this cuz i'm barely reaching 2100 nonetheless 2200. not to complain but i got some good hardware with some BAD cooling but i expected more.

right now i'm at 10X215@1.85v. although XP is fine, prime95 wont run past 10minutes on a custom 5 min test. torture test (blend) does not complete more than 20 min. 209X10 was stable in prime at 1.85v

i've ran this rig up to 1.9vcore at 58-60c (ouch) trying to get 11X200, 10.5X200 and so on. BTW memory was tested up to 9X230@2.9v

right now temps are high 30c case/37c idle and 55c load

mostly everything is off in bios, cpu int, cpu disconnect, mem/fsb
5:5, 6:6 - chipset is at 1.7

need some guidance at this point. can't really push beyond 1.9 with the temps.
----------------------------------------------------------
** i just want to know if some Bartons just don't get too far **

is my week 34 that bad?!

i see 2.3G at 1.7 - 1.8 what the !!!!

try BIOS d10??

set the RAM timings to 11-3-3-2.5 first and the voltage: 2.9v

Test again with MemTest86 v3.0

you can try each multiplier from 9x, 9.5x, 10x, 10.5x to check which one can get the highest FSB and without errors in MemTest86 v3.0.

Always set the RAM voltage to 2.9v, Chipset voltage to 1.7v.
In this situation i think you should use VCore between 1.75v - 1.95v (depends on the multiplier you use and how high your FSB)

note: jump 1 step multiplier is need more vcore then jump each 5 MHz.

Enjoy It

I doubt its his ram.
Its his cooling, temps are way too high, put your computer outside and the case opened so that air can flow, see what you can get with that.
Its also your processor, its not a good one.

Also, what bios are you using?
I had trouble with d10 and prime95 wont pass with any settings, while d21 works perfect

RakOon thanks for the 101, done that.

at best i got to 9X230@1.775vcore
chipset 1.7
11-2-2-2-2 T1@vdimm2.9
prime95 was ok for over an hour where i stopped it. once i started changing the multi, she needed so much juice

i don't have a floppy drive so i'd need to get memtest in a bootable cd i guess. i'm using EQuito modded bios 21.

also what is d21? Abit bios or modded? Abit bios 21 was bad for me as the SATA would not load- black screen prior to SATA bios

i'm thinking maybe i should just work slowly from 9.5@230 or even 9.5@222 which was ok in prime on 3 custom tests. last night i was at 10.5X200@1.9vcore and she would'nt post sometimes which is odd. cpu protect and shutoff settings were at 75c and prime never got off the ground.

i think the ram is fine, chip is lousy and HS needs a rehaul. also whats the benefit of a mounted HS? mine is a clip-on.

maybe i should get my 1900+ on the job?!!!

ps- RakOon how did things change after you upgraded NB/SB cooling?

good job then. if you set 1 step higher for the multiplier (ex: 9x to 9.5x or 10x) with the same FSB, It Is A BIG JUMP. So it needs more a lot voltage

i think your BIOS d21 is modded?? i never want to try the modded BIOS except i got BIOS SAVIOR first for Backup
go to http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/downl..._TYPE=Socket+A

download the Latest BIOS then. the latest BIOS can solve about hardware problem if you have it in previous BIOS. i think the latest BIOS should be better then the earlier BIOS hehehehe...

ONLY BIOS d10 can do multiplier 10x and 10.5x with higher FSB, but not all ppl success because of the hardware they got (ex: me ---> XMS3500C2 v1.1)

if you want try BIOS d10 you can visit Loggan site:
http://www.logan.eclipse.co.uk/abit_nf7_(s)_v2_0.htm

because you need BIOS d10 with SATA fix if you are using SATA harddisk

HS with 4 holes mounted, has a BIG SIZE. and you can use it with 80mm, 92mm, and 120mm (with fan duct). Of course it more silent then 60mm fan with high speed

ps- RakOon how did things change after you upgraded NB/SB cooling?
i upgraded NB cooling because i did Vdd mod to 1.94v, sure it should use better NB HSF (mine is copper one)
And i use SB with passive cooling that came with NB copper (Vantec Copper All-In-One) The Reason is when you use high FSB u need cooling on SB, if not you will have sound problem when playing games or hearing music, etc.

i used passive cooling because it get fresh air from 120mm fan that mounted on my Radiator at the front below (sorry my English )

i think i'll skip the d10 bios only cuz EQuito seems to be more experienced and the bios is pretty solid. d10 bios is modified yes?

who is the creator. is it this link ?

http://www.logan.eclipse.co.uk/abit_nf7_(s)_v2_0.htm

i guess my chip may need to get into the upper 1.9 range. once i get better cooling i'll try that.

i guess i'll just go back to 9 or try 9.2@222 which worked for abit.

Mickey Padge made that BIOS d10 with SATA fix

you can look at this website about NF7-S voltage mods:
